At St. John the Apostle, our life is centered on Jesus Christ: in Holy Scripture, in prayer, and in the Holy Eucharist. We are an Anglo-Catholic parish in the Anglican Church in North America and the Diocese of All Saints.
Our worship carries the inheritance of the ancient Church. Our calling is lived here and now—in our homes, our neighborhoods, and our care for one another.

Morning and Evening Prayer join our voices with the Church in the daily reading of Scripture and praise of God.

Tuesday–Friday at 9:00 AM
The Great Litany is chanted on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Evening Prayer
Tuesdays at 6:30 PM
During the warmer months, we often celebrate Evening Prayer in the outdoor Chapel of Our Lady.

Rector
The Rev. Fr.
Timothy Doubblestein
Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Father Tim earned his BA at Asbury University and his MDiv at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky.
Ordained deacon in October 2003 and priest in January 2004, he served as St. John’s curate from 2005 to 2011. He returned in October 2025 as the parish’s third rector. He and his wife, Anna, live in Sterling Heights.

Frederick Schwarz
A Toledo, Ohio native, Deacon Fred earned a BA in History at Ohio University and an MA in West European Studies at Indiana University.
He served in the Ohio National Guard, U.S. Army, and Army Reserve from 1977 to 2011, retiring as a colonel. He retired from the U.S. Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command in 2015 and was ordained deacon in July 2017. He and his wife, Anna, live in New Baltimore.

What is worship like?
Our worship is reverent, liturgical, and sacramental. We hear the Bible, pray together, sing hymns, and celebrate the Holy Eucharist. Join in as you feel comfortable; you do not need to know every response.
May I bring my children?
Yes. Children are welcome in the worshiping life of the parish. Contact us before your visit to learn about current opportunities for children and Christian education.
What should I wear?
Come in clothing that is comfortable and respectful. You are welcome whether you prefer to dress up or dress simply.
What about Holy Communion?
Please speak with the priest about receiving Communion, especially if you are new to Anglican worship. You are welcome to attend and pray with us as you learn.

Typically Thursdays at 6:30 PM
Join us as we work our way through the whole counsel of God, from Genesis to Exodus. The new session begins after Epiphany.

Women’s fellowship
The Daughters of the Holy Cross
A sisterhood rooted in prayer, study, service, and evangelism. The women of the Order of the Daughters of the Holy Cross commit their lives to the work and service of our Lord Jesus Christ.
They pray daily for the Church, its clergy, the Order, and those in need. Grounded in Holy Scripture and guided by the Holy Spirit, they share Christ’s message of salvation through word and deed.
The cross they wear is a reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice and their daily need for Him. Together, they find encouragement and strength to follow Christ and serve others.

The Churchmen of St. John
Gathering on the second Saturday of each month, the Churchmen explore theological questions and what it means to be a man of God in today’s world.
Conversation, fellowship, and a shared desire to follow Christ shape their time together. You will often find them outside around the parish fire pit.
